Fun weather facts

Gusty winds and the month of March have been on my mind lately and that got me to thinking, is March really the windy season? Current belief is that it is, but I need data to show me the way. I had seen a historical wind chart for the Mission area before and I need to find it again. Google is my friend.

After a few minutes figuring out the correct search terms, I found what I was looking for at City-Data.com. This site has all sorts of facts and figures to look at from population, crime data, unemployment to weather data and much more. There is just a wealth of information, but I found what I was looking for at a section called, Average climate in Mission, Texas. Here is what I found:

  • Wind peaks in mid-March at an average of 14 mph
    • National average is at about 10 mph
  • Wind dips in September at an average of 9 mph
    • National average is at about 8 mph

In July you can expect the Daily High temperatures to reach close to 100 degrees while the national average is a cool 90 degrees.

Just something to think about when out cycling. Hydrate, sun screen lotion, shade and food will be important during those times when the sun is just beating down on you as you ride.

Cold Weather

I really don’t like this cold weather as I don’t have any cold weather gear for cycling, in my size. So, instead I stay inside and ride my indoor cycle machine. You know the kind you would see in a gym. Not the spinners but the kind that you can program the time and workout level. It’s not bad; I need to change out the wide cushy type saddle something more traditional for cycling. I did switch out the pedals for some SPD’s that that has turned out pretty nice.

Well, looks like I’ll be riding it again tonight.
